Answer:
Founded in 1945, the national Deaf Sports organization was initially named “Amateur Athletic League of the Deaf.” Two years later, the name was changed to “American Athletic Association of the Deaf” to avoid confusion with the Amateur Athletic Union. In 1997, the AAAD was renamed “USA Deaf Sports Federation” to convey a more accurate idea of its scope and purpose, as “athletics” in other nations generally means track-and-field events, and “American” was also felt to be misleading. The USADSF is a coast-to-coast federation of over 180 clubs, and represents 22 National Sports Organizations and youth programs.
