What professional boxer was responsible for the installation of ringpost lights?

Answer:
Eugene “Silent” Hairston, who reached his peak in the early 1950s. Because he couldn’t hear the bell that marked the end of a round, arenas began installing flashing red lights on the ringposts. Audiences liked the idea (since the noise often drowned out the sound of the bell), and ringpost lights became universal practice.
